The RLS Gift Guide 2015

Posted on December 9, 2015

Welcome to the annual RLS gift guide. Nothing overwhelming, just a few things we love and think you (and your loved ones) will too. My personal commentary below.

For the Art Lover

How gorgeous is this vase? Have someone fashionable or into art or interiors to buy for? Guarantee they don’t already have this colorful vase from Jonathan Adler. Love it!

This Liberty of London Coloring Book was on my list. I say was because I thought I was going to have to ask someone to bring it from London. Apparently some enterprising chap is selling them on Amazon for less in dollars than they cost in pounds. I don’t want to know how but I ordered one immediately. Still need something to use to color in it though. This set of Prismacolor colored pencils is a great deal. Tell me dear reader, do you prefer using markers or colored pencils?

For the Luxury Lady

This leather jewelry pouch from Clare V. is easily packable, luxurious, personalized, and infinitely practical. That pretty much fits most gift criteria. The black leather version is even masculine enough for a man to use for his cufflinks. Or is Mr. Real Life Style the only one of our husbands who travels with changes of cufflinks?

For the Girl Who Lives at the Gym

I did a double take when I walked by a local activewear store and saw a cool sweatshirt emblazoned with the words, “Spiritual Gangster.” Definitely an awesome gift for the Yogi in your life. This sweatshirt is as perfect for a walk to the farmer’s market as it is for a trip to the gym.

Aren’t cotton totes just the perfect shape for everything? With Baggu‘s leather contrast totes you don’t have to sacrifice style or luxury for function. Can we talk about the black leather and rose gold combo? Heaven! This one is for you Erin…

Practical Yet Pretty

Even those of us who swear they don’t need one more thing will be tickled to death by a practical gift that is also oh so pretty. I’m so enthralled by my new Kate Spade Diary like the one below that I haven’t been able to write a single word in it yet, although typically I can’t wait to get my hands on next year’s date book so that I can start filling it up. It is just so pretty and perfect!

I have the Taylor, the most basic of all Oka B rain flats, in both nude and black myself. They look just like the Lily style below, but without the beautiful bow. Of course, now that the company makes bejeweled and wedge styles, I am trying to find an excuse to get another pair. This beautiful deep red may be a good one!

For the Accessorizer

This adorable ring holder from CB2 might be the stocking stuffer I am looking for this season. Who doesn’t need a ring holder and it pretty much couldn’t be cuter, right?

A few of our client’s will recognize this one. Kyle and I are pretty much obsessed with Natalie Frigo‘s claw necklaces. Handmade of recycled materials on the Lower East Side of New York, there are multiple versions to choose from on her website.

My love affair with Alexis Bittar has been well-documented on this blog, which is why this brush set is making an appearance on this list for the second year in a row.

For the Male Fashion Guru

Freshneck is Mr. Real Life Style’s favorite new toy. It is a bit like Rent the Runway for men, but you get to rent designer men’s accessories for a monthly subscription fee. Both the skull cufflinks and striped Prada tie below were in his first box. Not sure his coworkers knew what to make of skull cufflinks with a swiveling baseball hat, but he was pretty happy all day.

Small batch snacks from Brooklyn purveyors. You pretty much can’t get any more hipster than that. Mouth is an awesome website to check out for everyone on your list, including yourself. There is a theme for everyone and it all looks sooo yummy. Most of us don’t need more stuff. But we always need more snacks.

Lani’s Life-Changing Gifts

The two things that changed my life (for the better) the most in this past year are [solidcore] classes and Audible.com. Audible is an Amazon company from which you can purchase audiobooks that you can download onto your phone. Although I spent a few of my younger years reading books for pleasure rather than completing my assigned homework, I had completely stopped all recreational reading, except for the occasional parenting manual, as my life got busier and busier. Now I read books. Life-changing.  Read more about [solidcore], the toughest, most effective workout you will ever do, in the blog.

Bonus: For the Hostess

Just a few cute things any host or hostess would appreciate. Buying a nice little gift takes more forethought than a bottle of wine and will be appreciated as such. Why not order a few of these and keep them in your arsenal for the last minute (or not) invite?
