Kelly McMenamin  Instead of her old uniform of a plain-colored sweater and jeans, Kelly now pairs ice-blue corduroys with a cute top and tasteful accessories. The outfit is completed by a pair of brown riding boots that are comfortable enough to run around town but stylish enough to meet with clients. Kelly McMenamin’s wardrobe issues started when she left her job on Wall Street to become an entrepreneur and mother. Like many women who change careers around the time they have children, she had a lot of clothing that no longer fit her lifestyle, and a freedom in what to wear she didn’t quite know what to do with. In her confusion, Kelly was playing it safe, wearing ho-hum outfits that didn’t make her feel confident or get her noticed. Going through each item in her wardrobe, I helped Kelly weed out the things she would never wear again, and come up with new outfits and strategies that could take her from client meetings to caring for her son. Even with her new lifestyle, Kelly was able to work with a lot of her old wardrobe. I showed her how to combine simple pieces into modern, flattering shapes and add interest with the whimsical accessories that she owned but never wore. Then, I advised her to stop at the mirror on her way out the door every day and see if there was anything she could add to spice up her outfit. This question gives Kelly an opportunity to focus on herself, leading to a much happier and more stylish mother and entrepreneur. Kelly's Story: I've always prided myself on looking good and being in fashion. But I hit a wall when I had my first child, started my own business, and had a smaller budget than I had as a working gal on Wall Street. So, I hired Lani to edit and shop my closets and create a fill-in shopping list. Lani went through my closet piece by piece and made me get rid of a lot of things that were initially hard to part with (even though I hadn't worn them in years). But the day after, I couldn't even tell you what we got rid of. With the remaining clothes in my closet, she created 18 new outfits that I'd never have thought to put together, plus a succinct shopping list of must-haves that fit my budget. Without Lani, I would've managed maybe 2-3 new outfits. She also helped me do a better job of stepping up my style quotient on the outfits I already wore. Mark Stelzner  Mark recently left a corporate office job to run his own consulting firm – instead of traveling four days a week and wearing a suit everyday, Mark now worked from home and had both casual and formal meetings with clients. Mark’s casual clothes were worn out and boring – baggy jeans and basic plaid button-downs. His business suits were too big, harkening from the days of oversized dress shirts tucked into pleated dress pants. Mark needed to update his look and the size of his clothes but he didn’t know where to start. Mark's Story: Lani made the shopping process smooth and fast by structuring a day of shopping and guiding me through every step. At each store, clothes were either set aside, ready to try on, or Lani quickly pulled the best items from the floor. Each item was evaluated for fit and flexibility in my new wardrobe. Lani worked with the sales staff to order special items and alter items appropriately. In one day we were able to assemble a wardrobe foundation –everything from casual weekend clothes to dressy date night clothes to business casual, including shoes! And the clothes are interchangeable – all the pieces can mix and match, ensuring quick dressing and easy packing for last minute trips out of town. Kelli has what every young girl dreams of: a great career as a NYC real estate agent and a fabulous apartment in the West Village. But as she reached her late thirties, Kelly realized that her old wardrobe wasn’t working anymore. The problem was not how she looked. It was how she felt. At this stage of life, Kelli’s fun, whimsical clothing was starting to just not feel right. Kelli wanted a new look that would enable her to put her old pieces to creative new use. She also felt like the bright colors and patterns in her wardrobe were cluttering her closet. After getting rid of the things that weren’t working, I helped Kelli add a few pieces and discover a new style that revolved around her position as a creative, powerful woman—a woman who no longer needs to follow the trends but is happy to create them herself, and makes bold, dramatic use of her accessories. Kelli's Story: Lani has revolutionized my wardrobe. When I met Lani, I had a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. Lani came over, and we went over each piece one by one. We discovered that I had a lot of great pieces (mostly cute tops) but nothing to wear them with. As Lani put it, I had a lot of frosting but no cake. Lani put together a list of basics that I needed to buy, and even directed me to the websites and stores I could go to. It was super easy. The second time I met with Lani, we met at a private sale that she had already previewed. She’d picked out a whole rack full of clothes that were perfect for me, and I walked away with several new pieces that transformed my wardrobe. It would have taken me a whole day to gather the clothes I got that day. Instead, I spent a couple of hours with Lani and was done updating my wardrobe. With a small investment, my wardrobe was totally transformed. I had several new outfits and new ways to wear them. I am very interested in fashion and I love to shop, but it can still be hard to see the whole picture. Lani is able to bring everything together in ways I never would have imagined.
