May the Force of Fashion be with You

Who’s pumped for the new Star Wars movie? (*raises hand and bounces excitedly*)

I was late to the Star Wars fandom. The prequels with Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman came out when I was a little kid and was too young to understand the story or appreciate the franchise’s cultural significance. In 2015, my boyfriend convinced me to watch the original Star Wars trilogy as preparation for the release of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens that year. While I had to giggle at the dated graphics and less-than-perfect acting skills of all but the fabulous Carrie Fisher (may she rest in peace), I was definitely hooked.

My love for Star Wars primarily stems from the franchise’s fascinating examinations of political systems and its promotion of strong female characters: Princess Leia, Rey, and (most recently) Jyn Erso from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s no wonder that fashion brand rag & bone created a capsule collection inspired by the films (which launched today) in anticipation of the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi on December 15th.

rag & bone x Star Wars is a sporty, urban take on the futuristic military garb donned by the movie’s characters. These monochromatic looks reference the shapes, details, and minimalist color palette of the movies’ costumes while maintaining the chic edge for which rag & bone is known. (Be sure to also check out the men’s items from the collection and the limited edition T-shirts.)

Are you into the Star Wars look but rag & bone is above your price point? Not to worry, I put together a more affordable Star Wars-inspired outfit that I think maintains a similar bad-ass aesthetic (see below).

May the force be with you (and your credit card),

p.s. This isn’t RLS’s first post about Star Wars fashion. Remember Lani’s post from 2015?
